Following last weekend’s 3-2 friendly success over Everton, Belvoir Drive was again the venue for a meeting with fellow Merseyside outfit Liverpool. It ended 3-1 to the Reds, who Willie Kirk’s side will once again face in the Barclays Women’s Super League this term.
Ceri Holland opened the scoring 12 minutes in, curling an effort past Janina Leitzig from outside the box after Marie Höbinger’s corner fell to the Wales international midfielder.
Finnish forward Jutta Rantala, a summer signing from Swedish outfit Vittsjö GIK, almost levelled for the home side shortly before the break, bringing a smart save from Rachael Laws in the Liverpool goal.
But it was the visitors who doubled their advantage eight minutes into the second half when former Foxes forward Natasha Flint met Sophie Román Haug’s header, turning in from close range.
Now in a commanding position, Matt Beard’s team added a third late on, with substitute Missy Bo Kearns sending a long-range free-kick into the top corner.
City had the last say in stoppage time, though. Captain Aileen Whelan pulled one back, seeing her penalty saved by Teagan Micah before converting the rebound.
It was another good pre-season exercise for the Foxes, who will begin their WSL campaign away to Bristol City on Sunday 1 October (2pm kick-off) following the conclusion of the international break.
Tickets for that fixture at Ashton Gate are on sale to all supporters here, while LCFC Women Season Tickets for 2023/24 can be purchased online ahead of the first home game versus Everton on Sunday 8 October (3pm kick-off).
