- Kasey McAteer speaks ahead of Sunday's Sky Bet Championship trip to Blackburn Rovers
- The Academy graduate says Leicester City need to continue working hard
- He also discusses his start to the season, which has involved scoring five goals
McAteer, who joined the Club's Academy as an eight-year-old, has made a sensational start to his debut season in the First Team, netting five goals, including one at Liverpool in front of the Kop on Wednesday.
It's been a dream beginning to his senior career at Leicester City and McAteer is eager to savour more moments over the months to come. He insists he'll give his feet on the ground and continue to work hard to make that happen.
"It was a great feeling to score at such an incredible stadium, in front of such a famous stand," he said in Seagrave this week. "I’ll never for the feeling of putting the ball in the back of the net was great.
"It’s been a great start for me. I just need to keep my head grounded and keep working every day. It’s only been a couple of months since the season started so there’s a lot more work to do and more points to win.
"At this moment in time, I can be happy with the work so far, in the future let’s hope there’s still more good moments to come."
Hearing the Blue Army sing his name in the terraces has been a particular highlight for McAteer this campaign.
"It's amazing," the 21-year-old added. "I’ve been here since I was eight, so to hear the fans sing my name in incredible. Hopefully I’m repaying them with goals and with performances.
"I’ll just keep working hard and take it into every game that comes. It's been my ultimate goal ever since setting foot at Belvoir Drive since I was eight years-old. It’s nice to see that the rewards come at the end of the road.
"You need to put in the hard work and the graft and you can see there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I’m really over the moon to be where I am now. I’ll just keep kicking on now. I was at Forest Green and AFC Wimbledon last season in League 2.
"It’s a much different type of football. The speed’s very quick and you’re coming up against some very experienced players. I feel like I’m holding my way in there and feel confident to play in the Championship. It’s a great opportunity for me and great feeling every time I step out onto that pitch. I just need to keep it up and look forward to the future."
McAteer is also enjoying the new dawn at the Football Club under Enzo Maresca's management. The Italian was won nine of his opening 11 games as Manager and, heading into this week, City were top of the Sky Bet Championship table.
"It’s been great," he continued. "He’s come in spoke to us about his strategy and the way he wants to play. All the boys have bought into that and we’re all learning day by day.
"We just need to keep learning in every session we have. I feel like, in every game we play, we’re showing that. It’s about keeping that up and looking forward to the next game.
"It's credit to the boys. Everyone wants to make last season right. You can see that on the pitch with how hard the boys are working for each other and that bond we’ve got on the pitch. The gaffer’s so big on us being one as a team.
"We’ve got our end goal for the rest of the season, but we need to take every step as it comes, game by game. I’m sure, if we do that, we’ll get to where we want to be at the end of the season."
A clash of two former Premier League winners is next on the agenda on Sunday as Blackburn host Leicester in the lunchtime kick-off. McAteer has no doubts that Jon Dahl Tomasson's men will pose a serious test in Lancashire.
"Ewood Park is a difficult place to go," City's No.35 said. "I’m sure their fans will be right behind them. It’ll be a big game for them and a big game for us as well. We’re preparing as well as we have for every game.
"We know it’ll be a tough one. We need to go there and show our abilities to play both with the ball and without the ball. It’ll be a very tough game, but we’ll look forward to that challenge."
