- LCFC Women welcome Arsenal to King Power Stadium
- The Barclays Women’s Super League fixture has a 6:45pm GMT kick-off
- City have picked up seven points from their first five games in the WSL
- We need to trust in our abilities, says Cayman
Belgium’s most-capped player, Cayman, joined Leicester City in the summer from Olympique Lyon to boost Willie Kirk’s squad ahead of a third consecutive season in the top flight.
Having featured in four of the opening five games, Cayman has played her part in the Club’s best-ever start to a WSL season, using versatility as a positive to the team.
“There’s a good interaction between myself and Willie [Kirk] and what he wants me to bring to the team,” she told the media during Thursday’s press conference. “How I can fit in to help the team, this can change each week, depending on how we’re playing against, but I always just want to play my part.
“It’s not always easy not having a set position, but I’ve got used to it over the years, as it’s my role in the national team and was for Olympique Lyon as well. It’s nice to know where you’re going to play so you can focus on that specific role, but I’m quite good at being able to switch it up in my head.
“Whether it’s playing in midfield, in defence or in attack, I feel comfortable all over the pitch. I think that comes from a combination of experience but also how my attributes come into effect on the pitch.”
Cayman has been utilised in many positions under Kirk’s management, but even at 35-years-old, she is keen to learn from the Scotsman and vocalised her belief in the team that he is trying to build on Filbert Way.
“He is a very positive person and a good fit for this Club,” she continued. “He’s made a lot of changes already, and I hope that this keeps the team evolving in a positive way and he’s a very good coach and Manager.
“He is trying to put something in place here at Leicester, you can see what he’s trying to do each day. I’m just happy to be a part of it. We all have a job to play, and by working hard each day, I hope I can do my bit.”
The Foxes’ next test is Arsenal, who have won their last three league games, most recently beating Manchester City 2-1 last weekend when Stina Blackstenius scored a late winner at Meadow Park.
While Leicester have gone three games without a win, the No.11 is confident of her side’s ability to get back to winning ways and understand that these lows will occur throughout the season, and it is up to the team to learn and overcome them.
She added: “It’s been a fun and positive start to Leicester life for me. Unfortunately, we lost to Liverpool, but I think that this is normal. It doesn’t always go straight up. Sometimes you can have these dips, but we’ve analysed it, and we try to learn from it.
“I’m excited for it. At home against a big team like this is something to look forward too. We’re working hard this week to try and bounce back from the Liverpool defeat but we’re confident.
“It’s always important to take it game by game. Looking at our abilities, but also the other team, we can find the right gameplan. We have a very solid squad, and we need to make sure we believe in ourselves and go for it when the time comes.”
