- Leicester City’s Development Squad beaten 1-0 by Brentford B in the Premier League Cup
- Valintino Adedokun scored the only goal of the game at Wheatsheaf Park
- Up next for the young Foxes is a PL2 home fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday 4 December

Having lost their first two games of this season’s Premier League Cup, City headed to Staines to face a Brentford side, who had also not seen victory in the competition. But with a home advantage, the Bees took the points after a first half goal from Valintino Adedokun.

Despite defeat, Nelson was proud of the Foxes’ second-half performance and was disappointed to take nothing from the capital, after having a number of shots on goal.

“I feel like it was a game of two halves,” the defender voiced. “We dominated the second half and showed more of what we’re about. We needed a wakeup call at half-time, but sadly we just couldn’t get that goal.

We made loads of chances; we just need to be able to put them away a bit more.

“We kept hitting Brentford and pushing them until the end, but unfortunately, we just couldn’t get the goal that we were looking for.

“We made loads of chances; we just need to be able to put them away a bit more. I feel like we did well in the second half, but the ability to finish our chances must improve.

“The Brentford ‘keeper had a great game. We fired some great shots at him, and he managed to get behind them all, so it made our job tough.”

Nelson admits the hosts’ goal came from sloppy defending, as City allowed Adedokun to get away from his marker at the back-post to open the scoring and goes on to say how the awareness must be switched on from the first whistle.

Ben Nelson has made five appearances for the Under-21s this season.

Leicester do still have the chance of qualifying from Group G with three games remaining, however it is league action that becomes the focus now, as they prepare for the visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday 4 December at LCFC Training Ground.

“We could’ve been tighter for their goal,” Nelson explained. “He’s got around the back post and we’ve got to have a look at that. We were too loose in the first half and that happened a bit too much, so I can understand why we conceded.

“There’s still plenty of time left in the competition so we’ve got time to work on bits in training and get back on track so that we give ourselves a chance to progress.”
