After travelling from Suffolk to south Wales in a matter of days, Hamza Choudhury is looking forward to kickstarting the New Year at King Power Stadium when Leicester City welcome Huddersfield Town.

- Enzo Maresca’s side beat Cardiff City 2-0 on Friday evening
- City sit top of the Sky Bet Championship with 62 points.

It’s been a busy schedule for Leicester in a non-stop Sky Bet Championship campaign, but they have come out the other side of December with six wins from a possible seven, most recently defeating Cardiff City 2-0 just two days ago.

Hamza Choudhury captained the side that night, as goals from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and James Justin guided the Foxes to win no.20 this term in the second tier and explains how important it was to end the year on a high.

“It was a massive win,” Choudhury explained. “Every game over this period is so important. Games come thick and fast and picking up points is vital. Places like these are always tough but it was good to get across the line.

“If anything, I think we’ve overachieved. Coming down (to the Championship) and bringing in a new Manager is never easy with a new style of football. We knew the quality was always there, but it can be tough when you drop down a level.

“But the Manager (Enzo Maresca) we’ve got is amazing, the squad is amazing and the team spirit we’ve got is the most important thing, and the style of play we’ve got is very attractive football.”

The past year has seen plenty of ups and downs for the East Midlands outfit, but they are currently enjoying their football, as they look to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Still with a long way to go this season, the English midfielder understands that there is plenty of football left to be played but is excited for what is to come over the next few months.

“Looking back on 2023, it’s been an amazing year,” Choudhury recalled. “But there’s more football to be played, so we’re excited.

“The Manager spoke to me when we first came in and spoke about the style of football we’re going to play. He obviously thinks my attributes suit the role and I’m enjoying helping the team.”

Heading home for the first time since a 3-0 win over Rotherham United, City’s next opponents are Huddersfield Town, who are one space above the relegation zone, most recently seeing defeat at the hands of Middlesborough on Friday evening.

The Academy graduate continued: “We’ve been on the road for what feels like forever now, so it’ll be nice to get home at King Power Stadium and pick up another three points.

“Earlier on in the season, everyone is fighting and finding their feet, but we got the job done the last time we played them, and obviously they’ve had a change of manager, but nothing changes for us – we want to win every game.

“We want to win it playing our style of football, so we want to head home and hopefully start the year in great fashion.”
