- Her effort against Liverpool at Prenton Park in November came top of the nominations
- It’s nice to celebrate the success we’ve had as a team, says Missy Goodwin

Back in November, Goodwin found the top corner of the Liverpool net at Prenton Park in a Barclays Women’s Super League match; a goal that would stand the test of time to win the Goal of the Season award.

Delighted to claim the accolade for what was a second WSL goal in the young winger’s career, she explained what it meant to win the voting on Tuesday evening at King Power Stadium.

“I’m really grateful to receive this award,” Goodwin stated. “We scored a lot of great goals this season, but it’s really nice to be recognised for my goal.

Collecting her award.

“I’m very thankful for everyone that voted for me. As I said, it’s nice to be recognised and I think a lot of my friends and family will be very proud.”

A left-footed effort from a tight angle, the 21-year-old jokes that many people may look at the strike as an attempted cross, but she stands firm on the fact she was always going for goal.

“I think a lot of people would argue that it was a cross,” Goodwin admitted. “But I was crossing it beforehand, and nothing came from it, so I thought the next time I get it I’m going to shoot and see what happens; luckily it went in the top corner.”

Two games remain for the Foxes this season, and although safety in the top division is already achieved, the No.20 wants to finish as strongly as possible and believes the awards evening on Filbert Way was a good break for the team to refocus.

Goodwin added: “It’s been a bit of a rocky season for both the team and me personally, but I’m grateful to be recognised for things like this. It’s nice to be able to celebrate the success we’ve had as a team.

“It’s been a nice evening. It’s a nice break because we’ve still got two games left, but we’re fully focused on those two games. The FA Cup was a great experience for us girls, and hopefully next season we can go that one step further.”
