- He also thanked the Blue Army for their backing through a long season

The former Tottenham Hotspur man, who dropped to second-tier level for the first time of his career, has been incredible for City in 2023/24. His performances in midfield have helped Enzo Maresca's men dominate the league throughout the season.

Having now been presented with the trophy, the first of the England midfielder's career, Winks says it's important to celebrate these moments in football. He was speaking after the final-day 2-0 reverse to Blackburn Rovers at King Power Stadium.

"It’s surreal to be honest," he said. "I’ve never experienced anything like this, so I’m trying to soak up as much of it as possible. Like we said before the game, we don’t know when these moments come, so it’s important to enjoy them.

"When we’re in the Premier League next year, nobody’s going to remember the fact that we didn’t win our last game. Everyone will remember that we’re champions and that we’re up. That’s the most important thing."

Winks, 28, also reserved a special mention for the Blue Army, wanting to thank them for their support through the campaign.

"It’s unbelievable," he added. "They’ve been brilliant all season. It’s difficult to come into the Championship after playing in the Premier League for so long.

"To still turn up every game, in midweek and every weekend, and fill the stadium, they’ve been incredible all season. Especially for the last couple of games at home, when it got a little bit difficult and we needed to find a way of winning, they were the 12th man for us. They really got us over the line."
