The young Foxes reached the quarter-finals of the Main Cup as group winners, before losing out to eventual winners Brighton & Hove Albion in the last-eight. The Shield competition awaited, with West Ham United dispatched on penalties, before beating Rangers with a dramatic golden goal in extra-time from goalkeeper Brad Young to take home a trophy.

“I thought it was a fantastic two days,” City’s coach reflected. “I couldn't have asked for any more from the lads. Even in the quarter-final of the Main Cup, to go down a man and then take the lead, we've really entertained this weekend.

“We thoroughly deserved a bit of silverware. I’m delighted for the lads. We've done it the hard way, but we've been entertaining, and the lads have given it everything. There's a tired bunch in there, some tired staff as well. But it's been a brilliant week again.

“It's so difficult, the extra-time, four vs. four. Especially when you're out on your feet as well. It just goes to show the lads have dug in, shown a lot of character, a lot of energy. All the boys are delighted in there.”

Going back out to Hong Kong to participate in the seven-a-side tournament, he felt it was another high-level competition which ended on a positive note for the Foxes youngsters to round off the 2023/24 campaign.

“I've been here a lot,” Petty reflected. “I love coming back because I think it's a brilliant way to end the season. It's a showcase tournament, there’s lots of top players here, and I thought our lads did the Club proud. They have been a credit to the Club and we've got some really good players in our Academy.”
