Parking Premier League commitments for the moment, focus turns to the second round of the League Cup for Leicester City this Tuesday evening, with League 2 outfit Tranmere heading to King Power Stadium for a 7:45pm kick-off.

To get minutes has been really good and hopefully I can keep that going.

“I’m very much looking forward to it, at home under the lights,” the 22-year-old began. “It’s very important for building confidence, getting valuable minutes in your legs and we won’t be taking it lightly; we’ll be taking it very seriously.

“But it won’t be an easy game, they’ll come with their game plan and we’ve got to respect that, play our way, imprint our style on it and hopefully get a win to move into the next round.”

Making substitute appearances in both of Leicester’s two opening Premier League fixtures, McAteer, who signed a new contract earlier this month, is enjoying the challenge of playing in the top flight and competing against the best.

Contesting for the ball with Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall.

“Obviously it’s where you want to play your football,” the versatile midfielder continued. “I believe it’s the best league in the world so to get minutes it’s been really good and hopefully I can keep that going.

“I’ll play wherever the Manager wants to play me. For me, it’s just about getting as many minutes as I can. Wherever I get put on the pitch, I’ll give 100 per cent every time and do my best for the team.

“Being rewarded with a new contract, it gives me a lot of confidence and hopefully I can repay the Club and the people who have believed in me and deliver on the pitch when I get the chance.”
