Last year's top goalscorer Jutta Rantala was pleased to contribute to an opening day point for LCFC Women on the road to Liverpool.

Hitting double figures in her debut season with Leicester, Rantala carried on from where she left off by netting on the opening day at Totally Wicked Stadium to earn her side a draw on their travels.

Admitting that the Foxes didn't start as strongly as they hoped, a half-time conversation encouraged them to come out flying in the second period and quickly get back level again.

"I think that we didn't really get our game going in the first half," Rantala mentioned. "But then we came out in a different spirit in the second half. We spoke about a few things at half-time and fixed a few things.

I want to try and score as many goals as I can and help the team to win games.

"I think it was a good performance from us and I'm happy to get one point on the board."

Latching on to a long ball over the top from last term's top provider in Yuka Momiki, Rantala was full of praise for her Japanese team-mate for providing such an excellent pass that allowed her to finish beyond the Liverpool 'keeper.

Unlucky to have not taken all three points after Ruby Mace's injury time goal was disallowed, City have a good platform to build on as the No.8 hopes to improve on last year's 10th-placed finish.

"I'm happy to score again," Rantala continued. "It was a great assist from Yuka [Momiki], so it was really easy to score from that assist.

"My aim is to always play better than last season. I want to try and score as many goals as I can and help the team to win games so that we finish in a good position."
