- Leicester City were on the wrong side of a 4-2 scoreline at Arsenal on Saturday
- Goalkeeper Mads Hermansen made a series of impressive saves at Emirates Stadium
- The Dane was disappointed with the outcome after City came back from two down
Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard put the Gunners into a two-goal lead at the break at Emirates Stadium, before James Justin’s second-half brace put Leicester in contention for a point. An unfortunate Wilfred Ndidi own goal, plus Kai Havertz’s late strike, both in added time, ultimately saw Mikel Arteta’s hosts take all three points though.
It was a frustrating end to an afternoon which promised plenty for the Foxes, who defended valiantly against a constant surge of attacks. Hermansen made a string of headline-grabbing saves in the capital, with his total of 13 in a single game falling just one short of a Premier League record.
Naturally, Hermansen wouldn’t like to be that busy, and felt a sense of disappointment at full-time. City sit 16th in the Premier League with one game, a home clash with AFC Bournemouth, to go before the next international break.
“We’re disappointed first of all,” the Dane said. “It was a tough game, of course. They’re a great team with fantastic players. They played well, Arsenal, so it’s not easy.
“We can take on that we came back again from two goals down and almost got a point, but it was a tough one.
“I must admit, it was a bit too much today. I think we conceded 36 shots on goal. No matter who you play, that’s simply too much. We have to look at what we can improve and try to do better for the future.
“When I get home tonight and lay in my bed, I will think about a great game [personally] but it’s tough now being this close to a point on a difficult pitch.
“It was a shame, but in general, I can take a lot personally from this game but we can take something as a team as well. That’s what we have to focus on.
“We, in general, did well from their set-pieces. We know they’re strong. They have the best record in the league. We knew what was coming and I think we dealt with it well. Of course, it’s a bit unlucky for the third one, but that’s football.
“We scored on a set piece as well and had some good moments. We defended well in general. Even though we conceded four, we defended their set pieces well, so we can definitely take that on.”
Continuing to work diligently in training and taking on the ideas is the only way City will secure that first Premier League win of the season, the No.30 believes.
“It’s one of the most important tasks, as a footballer, that you can have – to adapt sometimes,” he added. “Of course, we’ve got new players and a new coaching staff, we’ve got a lot of new stuff going on.
“We need time to adapt as a team and especially in the Premier League when you’re playing at this level. We just need to do that as a team. There’s no way around it.”
