Leicester City loanee Tom Cannon was the star of the show for Stoke City as they beat Portsmouth 6-1 in the Sky Bet Championship in midweek.

The young forward netted in the 13th, 43rd, 48th and 51st minute to help his adopted club to an emphatic win on home soil at bet365 Stadium on Wednesday evening, moving the Potters up to 15th in the Sky Bet Championship table ahead of Saturday's clash at Swansea City (3pm kick-off). The Republic of Ireland international's fifth appearance for Narcís Pelach's side, those were his first goals in Stoke colours.

Elsewhere in the Championship on Wednesday, Foxes loanee Harry Souttar played 90 minutes for the sixth consecutive league fixture, assisting Sheffield United to a 1-0 victory over Swansea City at Bramall Lane. A fifth clean sheet in a row, the Blades are fourth in the standings and host Luton Town on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Fellow centre-back Ben Nelson played throughout successive draws from Oxford United in the second tier this week - his first two appearances for Des Buckingham's side. Following a goalless draw with Burnley at Kassam Stadium, it finished 2-2 away to Luton Town in midweek. The defender could be in line for his third appearance when United travel to Portsmouth's Fratton Park at 12:30pm on Saturday, aiming to remain in the top half of the table.

Silko Thomas continues to make a name for himself in Sky Bet League 1, playing 69 minutes of Wigan Athletic's 3-0 triumph over Peterborough United in midweek, extending the Latics' unbeaten run to five matches. The midfielder's 10th appearance of the season, he could be back in action when 14th-place Wigan travel to Stockport County on Saturday afternoon (3pm kick-off).

Amani Richards scored the only goal of the game as Exeter City beat Leyton Orient 1-0 in League 1 on Tuesday. The 19-year-old forward played an hour at Brisbane Road, stretching the unbeaten streak to three league fixtures. The Grecians, currently 10th in the table, host Cambridge United at St. James' Park on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

After netting in Port Vale's 2-1 victory over Swindon Town last weekend, Brandon Cover followed it up with another 90 minutes in Sky Bet League 2 as they drew 1-1 with Colchester United on Tuesday. The Valiants now visit Notts County at 3pm on Saturday.

Chris Popov's latest appearance for AFC Barrow, meanwhile, came in the midweek defeat at Doncaster Rovers, his fifth Sky Bet League 2 appearance of the season. Inside the top six as things stand, Barrow host Cheltenham at Holker Street on Saturday afternoon (3pm kick-off). 

Goalkeeper Brad Young made his first Vanarama National League appearance of 2024/25 in Hartlepool United's 1-0 defeat to Forest Green Rovers last weekend. Hosting Sutton United at Victoria Park on Saturday (3pm kick-off), the North East club will be hoping to improve on their current placing of 18th.

Midfielder Sammy Braybrooke played a part for Dundee in the 2-1 reverse at home to high-flying Aberdeen last Saturday, his fourth game for the Scottish Premiership outfit. Sitting eighth in the league after six fixtures, Kilmarnock are the visitors to Dens Park on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
