Claudio Ranieri says Islam Slimani will not be risked for Sunday’s Premier League encounter with Manchester United at King Power Stadium.
The Algeria international frontman returned from the Africa Cup of Nations with a minor groin problem in late January.
The Foxes boss confirmed on Friday that he is likely to miss both the and Wednesday’s Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round replay against Derby County.
“He is getting better and he’s trained very hard, not with us, but I don’t want to risk him,” Ranieri said of Slimani. “Not Sunday [against Manchester United] or in the cup [against Derby]. I want to make sure he is 100 per cent [for Swansea].
“Leo [Ulloa] is still injured as well as Slimani. Both players are getting better, but are not available. The other players are all available.”
Still out in Gabon at the Africa Cup of Nations is midfielder , who Ranieri has been impressed with after the Black Stars reached the semi-finals of the competition before being beaten by Cameroon.
“Tomorrow (Saturday), he has the third-place play-off and he could be available after coming back,” Ranieri continued.
“He is fit and he is in good condition. He played a lot of matches at centre back. I watched him and he’s been good.”
