- Jamie Vardy scored either side of a Danny Drinkwater strike to put the Foxes 3-0 up before Philippe Coutinho pulled one back for the Reds at King Power Stadium
- The win takes Leicester City out of the relegation zone and into 15th
- Shakespeare was pleased with the togetherness and unity shown by the players
Interim First Team Manager Craig Shakespeare hailed the importance of the first goal as Leicester City roared to a 3-1 Premier League victory over Liverpool at King Power Stadium on Monday night.
The Foxes have now won on each of the six occasions they have taken the lead in the league this term, with Monday’s three points also lifting them out of the relegation zone and into 15th position.
Jamie Vardy put the Foxes ahead around the half hour with a brilliant finish from a Marc Albrighton pass while Danny Drinkwater doubled that advantage with a half volley from range shortly afterwards.
Vardy glanced in a Christian Fuchs cross on the 60-minute mark and although Philippe Coutinho pulled a goal back for the visitors, the result was never in doubt for the fired-up Foxes, who deserved their victory.
Shakespeare said after the final whistle: “To get the three points against a very good Liverpool team, everyone is delighted.
“As a group we had to make sure that we showed unity and togetherness. From the word go you could see that we started the game really, really well.
“I think the fans were excellent and got behind the team. You could see that the first goal was always going to be important. I think to get the first goal, it gave everyone a lift.
“The fans got behind the team from the word go. The players recognised that. It’s been a strange few days. To get the result tonight was my remit. I tried to do that in the best way possible and to get the three points. I’m delighted for everybody at the Football Club.
“The performance tonight, I did see it against Manchester City. We are capable of it, but we’ve not done it often enough.”
