Fresh off scoring a stunning goal against Crystal Palace, Christian Fuchs was on hand to teach local youngsters a few of his tricks at the launch of Premier League Primary Stars.

The initiative uses Leicester City’s remarkable story of relegation candidates to Premier League champions in order to encourage youngsters to get active.

Fuchs, alongside the efforts of LCFC Community Trust coaches, helped deliver a session at Barley Croft Primary School, Leicester on Thursday and the City defender explained just how much he enjoyed surprising youngsters in the local community.

“When I was a kid I’d play football with my friends and I’d always wished I had the opportunity to play with a professional footballer and these kids have had the chance to do that thanks to Premier League Primary Stars,” said Fuchs

“It’s a chance for these kids to learn from us so it’s a nice experience for them. In these lessons they can get out there and run around and play football as well as other sports.

“It’s a really good mix of boys and girls so it was really nice. I hope they’ve enjoyed it and I hope I get to go to another one.

“It’s a chance for us as professional footballers to give back. We have all the support from the Leicester community and I’m enjoying it a lot.”

Premier League Primary Stars aims to develop skills and ambition both on and off the sports field with resources for girls and boys aged five to 11 years-old.

It provides local youngsters with an opportunity to be part of a nationally-recognised programme delivered by the expertise of the LCFC Community Trust.

Jamie Skinner, Leicester City Education and Partnerships Manager, said: “Our launch of Premier League Primary Stars will inspire children from five years-old up to 11 years-old across the city and county by using the brand of Leicester City and the Premier League to help them get the maximum out of P.E. lessons at school.

“Our LCFC Community Trust coaches work closely with teachers to give them confidence, knowledge and lesson planning in order to deliver high-quality P.E. lessons.

“It’s been fantastic having Christian Fuchs coming down to the lesson today to talk about his experiences and he’s been part of a resilience workshop called ‘Inspired By Champions’.

“We had a Q&A session with Christian which looked at the important of P.E. within schools and he shared his own experiences of that to encourage youngsters in attendance to not only participate in those lessons, but to also take park in sport outside of school.”
