Pearson: So Far, So Good

City boss Nigel Pearson was full of praise for his players after they put in a rousing display to secure a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers in the Sky Bet Championship on Tuesday night.

The win moves The Foxes joint top-of-the-table with QPR and Blackpool, although the R’s have a game in hand, and the manager was thrilled with the performances that accompanied the three points.

Lloyd Dyer got the scoring underway in the first half with an excellent strike before David Nugent added to it from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time.

Jordan Rhodes pulled one back for Rovers, also from the spot, but City held out for what was a hugely deserved win to move them onto 16 points from just seven games.

“The result is the most important thing,” stressed Pearson after the match. “But if we had won the game by four or five, I don’t think there would have been any complaints from anybody.

“All in all we’re worth the three points with the chances that we created and the way we went about the game was very, very encouraging – Jamie Vardy again was outstanding.

“He’ll be slightly disappointed that he couldn’t add a goal to that performance, but if he keeps doing what he has done tonight then he’ll be terrorising defences all season, which is great.”

City’s start to the campaign has been nothing short of sensational, and while the manager is only too aware that all that matters is where his team ends up after 46 games, he credits his players for their performances this season.

Pearson added: “[We came] into the season with a determination to get off to a good start. The players’ application has been outstanding and the trick is to try and maintain it.

“We’ve got off to a good start there’s no doubt about that. We’re not daft though, we know there’s a long way to go and it’s early days, but I’d rather be in this position with a decent points return. So far, so good.

“We need to keep working hard and maintaining the standards we’ve set so far, bearing in mind that we’ve got real competition for places.

“The players that currently have the positions know that they’ve got to be playing at their best to maintain their position in the side. All in all I think the players understand what we’re trying to do and that’s the important thing.”

The boss was also delighted to be able to add another face to his squad this week in the form of Poland international defender Marcin Wasilewski, adding: “He’s a very good defender, he comes with an outstanding track record and he fits the profile we’re looking for here as well as adding something different.

“He’s a proper old-fashioned centre back and I think he will compliment what we already have here. I’m delighted that we’ve been able to conclude that deal.”
