The Ghana international ended the season strongly for the Foxes in 2013/14 at left back and joins a host of star performers from last season to have signed long-term deals.
Wes Morgan, Kasper Schmeichel, Liam Moore, David Nugent, Danny Drinkwater and Matty James are just some of those to have already boosted City ahead of the new Barclays Premier League campaign by extending their deals, and now Academy graduate Schlupp has added his name to that list.
The German-born 21-year-old told LCFC.com: “I’m delighted to sign a three-year deal with Leicester City. I’ve been at the Club since I was 11 so to be able to say I’m staying for at least another three years is fantastic.
“I’m just so happy to be a part of it. I’m Leicester through and through and now I can’t wait to try and show what I can do in the Premier League.
“When I first signed for Leicester it was the last time they were in the Premier League, so to be there myself now is great, and the fact that it’s with Leicester City makes it all that more special.”
After progressing with friend and current team-mate Moore through the City youth ranks, Schlupp headed out on loan to Brentford during the 2010/11 season as a striker in what proved to be a productive spell – six goals in nine games quickly underlining his potential.
The following season an 18-year-old Schlupp made his first City appearance in a Carling Cup tie at Rotherham in August 2011, becoming the first Foxes player in 66 years to score a hat-trick on-debut.
Blessed with a remarkable turn of pace and power, Schlupp’s attributes have seen him feature up front and as a defender for the Foxes in his early career in the first team, having previously excelled in every level of the Club’s youth setup since joining as an 11-year-old.
Injury interrupted the 2011/12 season for Schlupp, though the youngster was able to net six times in 26 appearances and also win his first senior cap for Ghana in a friendly against Gabon in Paris.
The 2012/13 season saw Schlupp spend some beneficial time training with Manchester United, before returning to Leicester to help fire them into the play-offs with crucial back-to-back strikes against Birmingham City and Bolton Wanders at King Power Stadium.
Last season’s title-winning campaign saw Schlupp settle into life as a left back for the Foxes, playing a key role towards the end of the season following a suspension for Paul Koncheksy against Nottingham Forest.
Those performances earned him a call-up to Ghana’s provisional squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and he went on to claim a second cap for the Black Stars in a friendly against the Netherlands.
