The City boss was Schwarzer’s captain when they played in the same Middlesbrough side in the late 1990s, and it’s that relationship that played a huge part in the Australian’s decision to leave Chelsea for King Power Stadium.
Schwarzer is a vastly experienced Barclays Premier League campaigner with over 150 clean sheets to his name, and now at the age of 42, he’s determined to add another successful chapter to a glittering career.
<div ><br /><div style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Speaking exclusively to Foxes Player, Schwarzer revealed: “I feel really excited about the challenge ahead and I automatically, when I first arrived, got a great buzz and a great feel about the Club. </div><div style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">“Actually I was here with my children and it was very reminiscent of when I signed for Fulham. There was a feel at that club and I got that same feel when I signed for Leicester. </div><div style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">“A number of things [played a part in my decision]. Firstly it was the opportunity to work together with Nigel Pearson, who I played with as a player back in the day with Middlesbrough. </div><div style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">“I’ve known Nigel for many years and I know what he’s like as a person. For me it was a very easy decision to make to come here based on him alone.</div><div style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">“He was a very hard player. He went into challenges whole-heartedly all of the time. He was a very good player and I rated him very, very highly. He was a tremendous centre half and one of the best I’ve ever played with. </div><div style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"><br /></div><div style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">“But also I know Leicester City is a very good Football Club with a very good stadium and very good training facilities. </div><div style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;"><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">“It’s a very tight-knit group of players and something I’m very much looking forward to being a part of.”</span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><strong><span style="font-family: Arial;"><em>Watch the full, exclusive interview with Mark Schwarzer on Foxes Player by <a href="http://www.player.lcfc.com/latest-news/article/4403116/date/20150106170400/page/0/name/city-sign-schwarzer" target="_blank">clicking here</a>.</em></span></strong></span></div><div><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><a href="http://www.foxandcropclothing.co.uk" target="_blank"><img xlink:href="tcm:0-2159993" title="FoxandCrop_StoryBanner" alt="FoxandCrop_StoryBanner" style="width: 480px; height: 100px;" /></a><br /></span></span></div></div>
