- Midfielder says he is proud to sign for the Club
- Inler has been impressed with the support the fans give to the team
- Switzerland international says he is fit and ready for Saturday’s match against Tottenham Hotspur
New Leicester City signing Gökhan Inler spoke with pride after putting pen-to-paper on a three-year deal at King Power Stadium.
The experienced Switzerland international joins from Serie A side Napoli for an undisclosed fee and was immediately impressed with his new surroundings at King Power Stadium.
Subject to his registration being confirmed, Inler will be available to make his home debut against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon and admits he’s been following the Foxes’ fortunes closely so far this season as City battled to win the race for his signature.
“I’m very happy and proud to play here because we’ve been in discussions for a long time,” said Inler, speaking exclusively to Foxes Player HD. “I’ve spoken with the manager and I’m very happy to be here because it’s a nice team. I’ve watched them lots of times and I like them.
“The manager was important for me, also the Director Jon Rudkin and the owners. For me the whole package was very positive because they wanted me and now I’ll give everything.
“For me it was not so easy because I had many, many teams [chasing me] but in the end I decided with my heart and I came Leicester City.
“I feel this is like a family. I saw the games and the fans are behind the team. I like this very much. My impression is very positive. The team fight every minute and I like it because the fans want this. We must show them this every game on the pitch.”
The midfielder has played in two World Cups for Switzerland and has extensive experience in both Serie A and in Europe during his spells with Udinese and Napoli.
Now in the Premier League he’s hoping he can transfer his talents to the English game. The 31-year-old is renowned for both his long shooting and passing, and he insists that he’s ready for action if called upon.
He said: “I’m ready. I had a good preparation in pre-season and now I’m ready to give everything for this Club.
“I hope I can give my best in the team. My quality will be to provide the passes to the front and with the fast players we’ve got I think it will be a great mix.
“I think in Italy everybody speaks about the tactics. Everyday there we practice tactics, but English football is fast both physically and tactically. I’m in the best league in the world and I’m happy.”
