Claudio Ranieri will lay down the challenge for a new starting eleven on Tuesday night, as Leicester City bid to advance past League 1 Bury in the Capital One Cup.
The City boss confirmed in his pre-match press conference that he plans to change his entire team for the second round trip to Gigg Lane, giving merited opportunities to several members of his talented squad.
Ranieri has fielded the same starting eleven in each of City’s three Barclays Premier League matches so far this season, making the clash with the Shakers a vital opening for those yet to prominently feature.
And while keen to respect Leicester’s proud tradition in a competition they have won three times, Ranieri says those that will start deserve their chance to impress.
“I would like to win something, but now it’s important to build the squad,” Claudio said.
“Three times I chose the same line-up but, behind this, there are some people that deserve to start from the beginning. This is their real chance.
“Tomorrow I’ll change all 11 players. I have a very good squad. Now this is the right moment for the others to show their strengths.”
With several members of his own squad out to make an impression and Bury out to cause an upset, Ranieri expects an exciting encounter against David Flitcroft’s men, who are still searching for their first league win since promotion back to the third tier last season.
And having noted City’s fine record in the competition, the Italian refused to rule out a tilt at the Club’s first major trophy since 2000.
“Every time you play in the cup, it’s more open,” Ranieri said.
“They (Bury) score a lot of goals but concede a lot of goals. I think it will be an open match.
“We have a proud history in the cup. We’ve won it three times, runner up twice. Last season we went out early but the season before we got to the quarter final.
“That is important for us. We believe we can do something.”
