Jamie Vardy’s two Barclays Premier League goals against Arsenal at King Power Stadium on Saturday meant little to the striker without the result to go alongside it.

The Foxes were beaten 5-2 by the Gunners in an entertaining encounter, but despite his brace making him the Premier League’s top scorer with six goals this season, Vardy was disappointed not to have come away with a point.

In fact, rather than reflect on his goals he was keen to look forward to next weekend’s trip to Norwich City, where he hopes the Foxes can return to winning ways – whether he scores or not.

But with six goals in seven Premier League games this season there’s no denying that the England international is in red-hot form. As well as his two goals against the Gunners, he hit the post twice in the first half to give Arsene Wenger’s side some major headaches.

“I’m pleased but it means nothing because we’ve not got the result we wanted.” Vardy told .

“It’s disappointment really. Like I say we’ll go into next week [against Norwich] and hopefully I’ll be able to get a few goals there that’ll lead to us picking the three points up.”

“[The goals are coming] in the Premier League and I’ve never been here before except for last season, so yes it is the form of my life but right now it’s just disappointment that we didn’t get the result.”

Prior to the game against Arsenal the Foxes had come from behind to recover points in their previous four league games, and Vardy was pleased that the belief they could do it again was still strong in the players and supporters despite the result.

“The fans always are [behind us],” he said. “They stay behind us all the way. They knew we had a mountain to climb but they’re still there cheering us on. Even when I’ve got my second goal they were still there thinking that we could get the point, and so did we. But obviously we’ve got sucker punched at the end when they went and got another.”
