With Leicester City’s Premier League title defence kicking off with a trip to newly promoted Hull City on Saturday afternoon, skipper Wes Morgan is determined to maintain a winning mentality.

All eyes will be on the Foxes as they take part in the 2016/17 season’s first fixture and Morgan believes his side must be wary of the unpredictable element of opening matches.

Morgan and his team-mates will go into the game as reigning champions and favourites, but they know better than anyone that teams can not be underestimated in the Premier League following their incredible survival and then title triumph.

All the more reason for the Foxes to maintain the attitude that served them so well last season, and with an undoubtedly tricky test against Hull coming up, Morgan insists that the team are ready for whatever is thrown at them.

“We’ve prepared correctly,” he told LCFC TV. “We’ve done a lot of travelling and had a few tough games during pre-season but we’ve prepared as best we can. The Man Utd game in the Community Shield was a good warm up game for the start of the season. We’re looking forward to it definitely and the boys are raring to go.

“I think the first games are always going to be tough. There will always be an upset and something unpredictable will happen somewhere in one of the games.

“We can’t take anything for granted. We have to make sure we’re ready and raring to go. We know we need to make sure we’re on our game and make sure we get the right result.

“Every time we’ve played against them it’s been a tough game. It’s never been an easy game. We need to make sure we’re right, on our jobs and go there with a mentality to get three points.”

The 2016/17 Premier League season is shaping up to be one of the most exciting ever with a host of high profile managers and players joining the fight for the title.

With that added attention on the opposition, Morgan hopes that the pressure will be lifted on the Foxes and they can continue to concentrate on making a positive start to the campaign against Hull City on Saturday.

He added: “A lot of the headlines have been about the big managers taking over the big teams ad some of the signings that have come in, so we’ve gone relatively quiet and I’m sure there’s not as much pressure on us as the other teams. Hopefully we can go under the radar again and prove people wrong.

“It will mean everything [to start the season with a win]. We definitely want to start the season off right and pick up as many points as we can. We’re the first game and the first kick off of the Premier league. We know that everyone is going to be watching us so we want to put on a good show.”
