- The Foxes began life in the UEFA Champions League with a stunning 3-0 win at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Wednesday
- Marc Albrighton became the first player in the Club’s history to score in the Champions League
- Riyad Mahrez netted a brace to wrap up all three points
Leicester City’s ability to stamp their authority on Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash with Club Brugge was key to the Foxes’ brilliant 3-0 win, according to manager Claudio Ranieri.
In a display that oozed quality up front and solidarity in defence, City stormed to their biggest victory of the season so far at the Jan Breydel Stadium.
It was a special evening for all involved, not least Marc Albrighton, who became the Club’s first-ever goalscorer in the Champions League after finding the back of the net after just five minutes.
An excellent free kick from Riyad Mahrez then put City 2-0 up, before the Algerian extended his side’s lead in the second period from the spot.
Reflecting fondly on the win in Belgium, Ranieri said: “It is history because the first match we won away. It was important. I was a little scared at the beginning because Brugge had a chance to score.
“Then suddenly, the first action saw us score a goal with [Marc] Albrighton. He deserved it because he’s a hard worker and it was good.
“After this, we were more calm and we could play our own match. Brugge had control of the ball and moved it well, but we had control of the match.
“I said a clean sheet was important. We scored twice [in the first half] and it was important to keep going and be attentive so we don’t make any mistakes.
“We scored three goals but I don’t think it was a perfect performance. We can improve a lot.”
