- Darnell Johnson excelled as England lifted the UEFA U19 Euros title on Saturday night
- The Leicester City defender played the full 90 minutes in a 2-1 final success over Portugal
- Johnson had earlier been a key figure in City's HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens triumph in May
- Leicester's young defender will return to the East Midlands later this summer for training
It has proven to be a golden summer of success for the young Lions at all levels and Johnson, a key man for the Club’s Development Squad last term, has also been an influential figure for the Under-19s in Georgia. Easah Suliman and Lukas Nmecha strikes in the second half, either side of Dujon Sterling's own goal, were enough for Keith Downing’s side to emerge triumphant despite Tayo Edun's late dismissal.
The result means England have won all of their Euro fixtures, both group stage and knockout, of which Johnson has featured in three, en route to the title. The 18-year-old Foxes defender went into the competition on the back of helping City lift the HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens title in Hong Kong back in May. He will now return to Steve Beaglehole’s Under-23s later this summer before the 2017/18 season.
Downing’s side have defeated Bulgaria, Netherlands, Germany and Czech Republic in Georgia. Johnson joins team-mates Harvey Barnes and Elliott Moore, who enjoyed success at the Toulon Tournament, in picking up silverware with English youth sides this summer. Ben Chilwell and Demarai Gray, meanwhile, featured as the Under-21s reached the semi-finals of the Euros in Poland.
