Carlisle United are the Leicester City Development Squad’s next opponents as Steve Beaglehole’s men continue their Checkatrade Trophy campaign.

The Under-23s have made a magnificent start to their Premier League 2 campaign, sitting fourth in the early standings, but lost 3-0 to Fleetwood Town last month in the EFL Trophy.

City, one of 16 clubs to have been invited to enter a side into the competition, have been placed alongside Fleetwood Town, Carlisle and Morecambe in Northern Group A.

Ahead of the 7:45pm kick-off at Brunton Park on Tuesday night, here are five things you need to know…

Carlisle in focus

Carlisle celebrate their win at Crawley.

Carlisle got back to winning ways at the weekend with a 1-0 success over Crawley Town in Sky Bet League 2, courtesy of Hallam Hope's first-half header.

Keith Curle's Cumbrians sit 14th in the fourth tier with four wins, two draws and five loses to their name so far this season.

Meanwhile, following a 2-0 victory over Morecame in August, Carlisle will also be looking for their second success in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday evening.

Last time out

City sparkled at King Power Stadium on Wednesday to open the Premier League International Cup with a 3-0 success over Hertha Berlin.

In front of the Blue Army on Filbert Way, defender Sam Hughes gave the Foxes the lead inside 120 seconds before Darnell Johnson and Admiral Muskwe made sure of the result.

It was the latest impressive result from the Under-23s, who have already defeated PL2 champions Everton and FA Youth Cup holders Chelsea this term.

Hughes loving life at City

After scoring his first goal for the Foxes on Wednesday evening, centre back Hughes says he is enjoying his football at the Club this season.

Hughes has settled in quickly to life at the Club.

He told LCFC TV: “It was always going to be different for me, coming from Chester. I’ve been adapting to the tactical side of it.

“I’m loving it here, I’m fortunate that I’m playing. I’ll just keep putting in good performances and try to keep my place in the team.”

Petty’s thoughts

Development Squad coach Ben Petty has looked ahead to the clash at Brunton Park, saying he expects another considerable challenge for the Club’s young stars.

“It will be a test. We will be without our four international players [Johnson, George Thomas, Alex Pascanu and Daniel Iversen], so it enables other lads to come into the team.”

On the Hertha result, he added: “This International Cup allows you to pay at the stadiums against foreign opposition and we have all enjoyed it. We’re delighted with their progress.”
