Young Leicester City striker George Thomas transformed his fine club form onto the international stage on Thursday evening by netting a brace to help Wales Under-21s to a 3-1 victory over Liechtenstein.

- George Thomas netted a brace for Wales’ Under-21s side against Liechtenstein on Thursday night
- Kasper Schmeichel helped Denmark to a 1-0 2018 World Cup qualification win over Montenegro
- Harry Maguire was unused from the bench during England’s 1-0 win against Slovenia

The former Coventry City frontman has netted four goals for City’s Development Squad this term and it took him just 24 minutes to find the back of the net in Wales’ U21 European Championship qualifier at the Eschen-Mauren Sportpark.

Thomas then dispatched a penalty five minutes later before Manchester City’s Matt Smith extended the lead after the break to help Robert Page’s men move second in qualification Group H.

He told faw.cymru: “I’m absolutely delighted. Any goal in international football gives me great pleasure but hopefully I can get more now.

“We've had three tough away games to kick this campaign off, so we're very happy with six points but now it's vital that we get six points from the two home games next month.”

Also in action was Kasper Schmeichel, who played 90 minutes and kept a clean sheet for Denmark in their World Cup qualification victory over Montenegro.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen scored the only goal of the game as the Danes kept their hopes of qualification for next summer’s tournament alive.

Schmeichel currently has 31 caps for his country.

Schmeichel’s nation play their final Group E game on Sunday, when they host Romania at the Telia Parken Stadium, Copenhagen.

Meanwhile, Foxes centre back Harry Maguire was an unused substitute as England secured their spot at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Harry Kane fired in in injury time against Slovenia at Wembley Stadium to help the Three Lions to a 1-0 triumph – their seventh win in nine Group F fixtures.

Maguire could potentially make his debut for Gareth Southgate’s men on Sunday when they head to Lithuania to round off their qualification campaign.

Harvey Barnes helped the England U20s retain the Toulon Tournament last summer.

Finally, Harvey Barnes - currently on loan at Barnsley - and Darnell Johnson’s England Under-20s side also recorded a victory, this time in the U20 Elite League against Italy.

The City duo’s nation stormed to a 5-1 win to open up a three-point gap between themselves and second-placed Czech Republic.
