With the assistance of Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, Denmark booked their spot at the 2018 World Cup following an impressive 5-1 victory over the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday night.

- Kasper Schmeichel’s Denmark beat the Republic of Ireland to secure their place at the 2018 World Cup
- Kelechi Iheanacho scored a fine free kick and set up two more goals as Nigeria defeated Argentina 4-2
- Islam Slimani was on target in Algeria’s 3-0 triumph over Central Africa
- Harvey Barnes scored for England Under-20s against Germany

The stopper completed 90 minutes against former Foxes boss Martin O’Neill’s men, as a hat-trick from Christian Eriksen and efforts from Andreas Christensen and Nicklas Bendtner secured a memorable win in Dublin.

Should Schmeichel feature in Russia next year, it would be the first time in his career that he has played at the finals of a major tournament for his nation.

More success on the international front for City’s stars came in the form of a memorable 4-2 victory for Nigeria over two-time world champions Argentina.

The City striker put in an excellent display against Argentina.

Kelechi Iheanacho replied to early strikes from Ever Banega and Sergio Aguero with a superb free kick to ignite a famous comeback, before the summer arrival set up Alex Iwobi and Brian Idowu for their second-half efforts.

Wilfred Ndidi completed 90 minutes, while Ahmed Musa replaced the outstanding Iheanacho with 20 minutes to play in Krasnodar, Russia.

Islam Slimani continued the goalscoring on Tuesday night, as Algeria defeated Central Africa 3-0 in an international friendly.

Yacine Brahimi’s brace put the Desert Foxes into a 2-0 lead, before Slimani scored his side’s third with just five minutes to play. Both Slimani and Riyad Mahrez featured from start to finish.

Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire line up against Brazil.

City duo Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire both started their second game for England in the space of five days following Friday’s goalless draw with Germany.

Maguire, facing a fearsome front trio of Neymar, Gabriel Jesus and Philippe Coutinho, played 90 minutes during the stalemate with Brazil at Wembley Stadium, while Vardy was substituted with just 15 minutes to play.

Another win for a senior Fox came in Vienna, as Aleksandar Dragovic completed the full game for Austria, who defeated Uruguay 2-1 thanks to a late effort from Louis Schaub.

Earlier in the evening, Alex Pascanu lined up for Romania Under-21s against George Thomas’ Wales Under-21s in Bangor.

Riyad Mahrez has been a consistent performer for Algeria.

While Pascanu’s nation finished the game with nine men, they held out to secure a goalless draw, in turn extending their lead at the top of their U21 European Championship qualifying group.

Development Squad stopper Daniel Iversen also represented his country in the same competition, but he couldn’t prevent Denmark Under-21s from suffering a 3-1 defeat to Poland in Gdynia.

Finally, Harvey Barnes was on target in the closing stages for England Under-20s in the U20 Elite League clash with Germany, but the Young Lions’ defence cracked early on following a double from Maximilian Eggestein.
