- Leicester City beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in the Premier League at King Power Stadium
- Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez gave the Foxes a 2-0 lead at half time
- Harry Kane scored with 10 minutes to go for Tottenham Hotspur but Leicester saw out the win
- Manager Claude Puel said it was the best performance since he took over
The Foxes boss saw sensational strikes from Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez put them into a commanding 2-0 lead at half time. The first was a stunning volley to lob Hugo Lloris by Vardy before team-mate Mahrez curled a sublime finish into the top corner.
Puel’s men continued to impress but Harry Kane’s turn and shot into the top corner made for a tense final 10 minutes at King Power Stadium. Defensively, City were solid though and were able to see out the victory which moves them up to ninth in the table.
“At the moment I think it is the best performance,” reflected Puel at full-time. “It was promising and encouraging for the future but we need to continue this hard work on the pitch and to continue with a positive attitude we showed tonight.
“We can improve a lot with some details. This game was better than the last because we managed the game with quality and in the second half it was difficult to resist against this good team.
“We were under pressure but we kept our calm and tried to play after every recovery and we could have scored another goal in the second half. It was positive for the future.”
As much as City’s attacking play caught the eye in the first half, after the break, they were resolute defensively to hold off the challenge of high-flying Spurs, who hadn’t been beaten in the league at King Power Stadium since 2002.
Puel praised his team’s focus as they saw out the victory: “It was important to manage our game better. At the end of the first half, just after half time, it was important to resist and keep good concentration and structure.
“I think it is a promising game for us because we improve together. It was good football in the first 30 minutes.
“We scored two fantastic goals and they see the benefit to play on the floor, to try to play good football. It was a good reward for fantastic football.
“It was difficult against a great team to keep the result but it shows you get your rewards if you put the effort in and it is a fantastic result for us.”
