- Leicester City Development Squad boss Steve Beaglehole reflects on the 7-1 win over Barnsley
- The Foxes are now seven points clear in Group F in the Premier League Cup
- Beaglehole has been delighted to watch the progress made by his side
- City's youngsters have a chance of success in every competition they entered in the summer
The Foxes delivered a magnificent performance, which acts as an example of their progress this season, to go seven points clear at the top of Group F in the Premier League Cup.
Darnell Johnson, Sam Hughes (2), Layton Ndukwu, Josh Gordon and Hamza Choudhury struck at Holmes Park, with their tally also being aided by a Louis Wardle own goal in the second half.
“We went a goal down early on which disappointed me but what a response,” Beaglehole told LCFC TV during his full-time media briefing in Whetstone.
“Within a minute or so we were 1-1. When you work with young players, and you are a coach, it is so beneficial to see the fruits of your work.
“We were just saying that, Ben [Petty, assistant coach] and me, that they’ve put a lot of work in on the training ground and they’ve carried it off really well to finish this part of the season.
“The goals were there, a lot of them came from set-plays, which we’ve worked on.
“We concentrate on our delivery and, you get a feeling, that when we get a corner it’s nearly as good as a penalty because that’s how strong we were.
“There were some really good patterns of play at times, the movement of the players was good and they kept it going when we were 4-1 up at half-time.
“After what has been a hard month of games, to finish it off as strong as that and to keep going and keep trying to score is a testament to the attitude of these players.
“The Club can be proud of them because they’ve played some good football and concentrated on their jobs so I’m really pleased for them.”

Beaglehole is particularly pleased, too, to end the calendar year knowing his side still have a chance of success in every competition they entered at the beginning of the season.
“In the second part of the season, to keep it going, we’ve got to be special again, they’ve got to perform week-in, week-out,” he added.
“I don’t think we’ve ever been in the situation where we are in every competition with a decent chance. That’s what you want, to be in there to try and win things.
“It’s a winning game and I hope they can continue in the same vein as they have in 2017.”
