An 86th minute strike from Tottenham Hotspur prospect Jack Roles condemned the Foxes to defeat in Enfield despite plenty of positive attacking play, especially in the first half.
City were unrelenting in their deployment of a high-pressing style of play, but lacked the clinical edge required to come away with a positive result in north London.
"We’re very disappointed in there as well, especially after we dominated the first half," Petty, the Academy's Assistant Senior Development Phase Coach, told LCFC TV.
"We’ve had 15 or 16 shots in the first half, but we’re lacking that little bit of quality in front of goal at the minute.
"We saw it at Bury, where we played against 10 men and we’ve said to the players the least they should have come away with today was a 0-0 so we are very disappointed in there."
Petty admits City's early play was pleasing but says it lacked one crucial element - a goal to allow for the visitors to preserve energy and adapt their style in the latter stages.
"It was but the plan is always to get the first goal and then you can sit off. We put a hell of a lot of effort in there today,"
"The press was good, it was more like it was last season, and we’ve been working hard at it in training. Obviously, the better we get at the press, the more success we’ll have.
"It’s been a tough week in regards to results, but we hope they take a lot out of this week.
"They were two really tough away games, we would’ve liked to have got more out of it, obviously, but there’s been some good performances and as development coaches sometimes you have to look at individual performances.
"The week we’ve had, with players away with internationals (teams), sometimes you have to reflect and look at it a little bit differently."
Finally, Petty also provided an update on the fitness of Raúl Uche Rubio, who fell awkwardly on his shoulder in the first half.
He added: "Unfortunately, it’s a recurring shoulder injury. It popped out and unfortunately dislocated it, but they got it back in straight away and we’ll wait to see how long he’ll be out for.
"He’ll be a miss, we’re four main strikers down at the moment, when you look at Layton [Ndukwu], [Josh] Eppiah, Addy [Admiral Muskwe] and Callum Wright, so we’re a little bit short in the striker area so hopefully when we get one or two of them back, there will be some more goals."
