Vardy, 31, has been forced to sit out some matches in previous weeks as the Club’s medical staff oversee his recovery, but his manager believes he is now ready for a more regular role.

With champions Manchester City due at King Power Stadium on Boxing Day (3pm GMT kick-off), Puel says that Vardy is benefiting from that close management of his fitness.

“Jamie showed it was behind him, this injury,” he said. “We managed to keep him fit with all his possibilities and his attributes. He can play in his best way and that’s the most important thing.

“I’ve said before how important it is to manage our players. We have a busy period with tough games to prepare, an exciting game now, but it’s important to take the right decisions.

“Jamie has showed his quality and he came back at a fantastic level.”

Puel has been keen to manage Vardy's fitness sensibly this season.

When asked whether he is likely to make any changes to his starting XI, Puel said he will monitor the recovery of his squad following the brilliant 1-0 success at Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.

He added: “I cannot give you my starting players! We will see how their recovery goes. We’ll play three days after a physical performance and we’ll take information from all the players.”
