The Stats Surrounding Leicester City’s Season So Far

With Leicester City making their best-ever start to a Premier League season, LCFC.com takes a look at the statistics behind their success so far in 2019/20.
More on this story...

The Foxes head into the November international break with eight wins from 12 matches, losing just twice – to leaders Liverpool and 20-times champions of England Manchester United – in the process.

They are currently in second position, with 26 points on the board, and have already broken both Club and Premier League records this campaign.

As the final international break of the year gets underway, we reflect on four months of riveting Premier League action for City.

Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy's 11 Premier League strikes sees him, to date, positioned at the top of the goalscoring rankings in 2019/20.

Leicester City have the second-best goalscoring record of 2019/20, having netted 29 times in 12 games, averaging a strike rate of just over 2.4 goals per game.

This season, only Manchester City have scored more goals than the Foxes, who have netted more times than unbeaten Premier League leaders Liverpool.

They have only failed to score in two of their 12 matches – during the 0-0 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers on the opening day of the season, and against Manchester United, in a 1-0 loss, back in September.

City also possess in their ranks the top-flight’s leading goalscorer, Jamie Vardy, who has scored 11 times, taking his overall Premier League tally to 91 goals in 188 appearances for the Football Club.

James Maddison & Youri Tielemans

James Maddison and Youri Tielemans have both excelled for the Foxes in 2019/20.

The trio of Wilfred Ndidi, Youri Tielemans and James Maddison, has been pivotal to Leicester City’s fine run of form so far this season.

Nigeria international Ndidi has completed more tackles (59) than any other player in the Premier League in 2019/20, and is followed closely by City team-mate Ricardo Pereira (54).

In addition, Tielemans and Maddison, have contributed to a combined 12 goals this campaign, while wideman Harvey Barnes is the league’s joint-second assist maker with four to his name.

Spaniard Ayoze Pérez, meanwhile, often occupies the opposite wing to Barnes, and scored his first goals for the Football Club with a hat-trick in the 9-0 victory over Southampton in October.

Jonny Evans

Northern Ireland defender Jonny Evans has been impressive all season.

No side has conceded fewer goals than Leicester City have this season, with only eight efforts breaching their back line and goalkeeper.

That has led to the Foxes earning an impressive goal difference of +21 after just 12 games, and only Manchester City have a better for and against ratio.

Kasper Schmeichel, meanwhile, is joint-first in the clean sheet rankings, with Sheffield United’s Dean Henderson and Manchester City’s Ederson earning as many shutouts.

Also ranking highly in the defensive charts is Çağlar Söyüncü, who has made the fifth-highest number of clearances (66) in the Premier League term.

Leicester City sit second in the Premier League table after 12 matches.

Overall, as a team, Leicester City have made 266 tackles in 2019/20 – 34 more than second-placed Brighton & Hove Albion.

As the Premier League’s second-highest goalscorers, City are also second in the rankings for both goals from inside the box (24) and goals outside the box (five).

In addition, only three outfits – Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool – have made more passes than Leicester City’s 6,348, with Çağlar Söyüncü (835) ranking fourth in the individual standings, and Jonny Evans (757) placing ninth.

Finally, City’s 247 crosses are the fifth-highest among the Premier League’s sides this term, with Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton and Sheffield United the only other teams to make more.
