With Guppy and Foulger in the studio on Filbert Way, and Elliott positioned in the pressbox as a co-commentator for the clash, all three watched on in Leicester on behalf of LCFC Radio as the Foxes tackled Daniel Farke’s men.
It was Norwich who first struck through Teemu Pukki, whose low finish opened the scoring, before Tim Krul turned in Jamie Vardy’s header as City got themselves back on level terms, only to be thwarted later on in the game as they searched for an equaliser.
Credit to Norwich
Matt Elliott said: “You have to give a lot of credit to the visitors. It doesn’t always go to plan, sometimes you don’t play at your best collectively, but part of the reason for that is the performance of Norwich City, so well done to them. They came here with an energy themselves. They had an intention to play their part in the game and a very good game it was as well.”
Win your personal battles
Steve Guppy said: “Sometimes, you have to hold your hand up and say that the visiting team did a good job. There’s always a lot of talk these days about systems, but football isn’t always a difficult game and sometimes, you just have to win your personal battles. If you win those, then things grow from that.”
A high standard
Nev Foulger said: “They’ve set the bar very high, and you have to say that they probably didn’t reach the level that they’ve been playing at. That’s probably the disappointment because in the build-up to the game, you look at the league table, it was almost a feeling of how many Leicester would score. I don’t think Leicester themselves would be complacent, but if you were going to decide a result today, you’d have said a home win.”
Tinge of frustration
Matt Elliott said: “There wasn’t a hatful of chances at either end but it’s just desserts for both teams. Leicester had the dominance in terms of possession, chances created, shots on goal and corners. There’s a tinge of frustration and disappointment because we expect Leicester to be rampant every week the way that results have been going.”
City dug in
Steve Guppy: “This is one of those games. We weren’t expecting it, but they didn’t lose. They dug in, albeit Teemu Pukki had some decent chances in the second half. They did well, Norwich, and today, Leicester were just a little bit under the weather.”
Either side could have won
Nev Foulger said: “It wasn’t the greatest game of football you’ll ever see. I thought there were some exciting moments, but it wasn’t a free-flowing game. I thought Norwich, as an away side, had a lot of possession at times and did a good job against Leicester. They could have nicked the game, but Leicester could have as well.”
Different challenges coming up
Matt Elliott said: “It might not be a negative thing with the games coming up against Man City and Liverpool, which will be a different proposition. Norwich will be absolutely delighted with that result because they know what a good team Leicester are. It just didn’t quite click today for Leicester.”
