Rodgers Excited By Leicester City's 2020 Potential

Brendan Rodgers has outlined an exciting vision for the next 12 months as Leicester City go into 2020 riding high in the Premier League and in the last four of the Carabao Cup.

The Foxes, who are sat second in the top-flight standings and travel to Newcastle United on New Year's Day, will also contest a two-legged Carabao Cup semi-final against Aston Villa this month.

It's been a remarkable calendar year for City, much of which has been under Rodgers' management, and the Northern Irishman says there is plenty for his squad to be excited about in the future.

As well as on-field reasons for optimism, the Club is due to move to a state-of-the-art new training facility in north Leicestershire in the summer, a continuation of King Power International's long-term vision.

"I think 2020 can be a really exciting time for us," Rodgers said earlier this week. "We’ve got a big month, with lots of games and the semi-finals and, of course, our objective is to get to Wembley.

A Journey Through Leicester City's Last 10 Years

We take a look back at the highlights of the past decade, which have included lifting the Premier League and Championship titles, as well as reaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League and breaking records along the way...

"The focus really, above everything, is our next game and we now need to recover the players and it’s an exciting time for the Club.

"Over time, we want to develop, there’s no doubt about that, if we want to compete with sides like Man City and Liverpool."

To do that, Rodgers believes Leicester's renowned transfer strategy, sourcing youthful, talented players with potential, will be key to their success in future.

"Of course, we know we need extra quality and a different profile of player, but it’s step by step," he added.

"We have to bring in a certain type of player, develop him, and then allow him to grow into our way.

We’ve got some fantastic players, but of course, in every window we would like to improve, but the players have to be affordable and they have to be available.

"That’s why I’m here at the Club, to try and make that development possible for the players and the team and to create a culture that can allow us to sustain European football."

Improving the players already thriving at King Power Stadium and adding quality over a suitable passage of time is also central to the Club's strategy, Rodgers says.

"We’ve got some fantastic players, but of course, in every window we would like to improve, but the players have to be affordable and they have to be available," he continued.

"That’s something that the Club looks after. They’re very, very good in terms of that recruitment side, so if the Club can get them in, then I’m sure they will."
