Foxes Suffer Burnley Reverse At Turf Moor
Brendan Rodgers opted to make two changes to the side that faced Southampton last weekend, with Christian Fuchs and Papy Mendy coming in for Ben Chilwell and Hamza Choudhury.
Inside the opening 60 seconds, Academy graduate Harvey Barnes curled a shot at goalkeeper Nick Pope as City looked to take an early lead, while shortly after, James Maddison had a chance of his own, but couldn’t bring the ball under control in the Burnley box.
However, Barnes did beat Pope at the second attempt. After a fine challenge from Dennis Praet to win it in midfield, Barnes carried the ball into the area before firing into the net to score his second goal in three games in all competitions.
In first-half stoppage time, meanwhile, striker Ayoze Pérez flicked a Maddison corner just inches over as City headed into the interval with a 1-0 lead.
The Foxes continued to push for a second goal after the break, as Praet forced Pope into an excellent save before Maddison curled a decent effort off target on 52 minutes.
But Burnley hauled themselves level just moments later as former City striker Chris Wood converted a loose ball from close range for his ninth Premier League goal of 2019/20.
On 67 minutes, the Foxes had a huge chance to take a 2-1 lead. Goalscorer Barnes was fouled in the Burnley box and up stepped Jamie Vardy, but the Premier League’s top scorer couldn’t beat Pope from 12 yards and the rebound was fired wide by Ricardo Pereira.
Midfielder Mendy’s half-volley was then saved by Pope with around 15 minutes to play, while Vardy forced another stop out of the Burnley ‘keeper shortly after.
Despite all of Leicester’s pressure, though, Burnley went on to claim all three Premier League points after Ashley Westwood slammed home from inside the box with 11 minutes to play.
Major moment
Already 1-0 up after Harvey Barnes opened the scoring in the first period, the Foxes were denied the opportunity to make it 2-0 after being awarded a penalty with 67 minutes on the clock.
However, Nick Pope went the right way to turn away Jamie Vardy’s spot-kick to safety before the hosts emerged victorious through Ashley Westwood’s winner.
Who impressed?
Gerry Taggart told LCFC Radio: "I'm going to give a special mention for a couple of people, really. Papy Mendy in there, he’s come in and not had a lot of game time, but he was really comfortable and did a really good job in there.
"Jonny Evans, apart from the slight mistake for Burnley’s second goal, I thought was excellent again today, but for me, I’ve got to give it to young Harvey Barnes.
"He scored the goal, he created the opportunity for Jamie Vardy to make it 2-0 from the penalty spot, so he gets my Man of the Match.”

Brendan Rodgers’ men remain third in the Premier League after 23 matches, and sit six points clear of Chelsea in fourth position.
