Leicester's FA Cup Journey So Far

Thus far in the only major domestic competition to elude the Club, the Foxes have beaten three Sky Bet Championship sides en route to the last-eight stage.

Ahead of Sunday's visit of eight-time winners Chelsea, LCFC.com looks back on City's route to this stage of the prestigious competition...

Leicester commenced their 2019/20 FA Cup campaign with a routine 2-0 success over Paul Cook's Wigan Athletic at King Power Stadium on Saturday 4 January.

Only Ben Chilwell remained from the side that beat Newcastle United on New Year’s Day, as Brendan Rodgers also handed centre-back Filip Benković a first City start.

The Foxes took a 19th-minute lead as Wigan debutant Tom Pearce diverted Marc Albrighton’s low cross – aimed at Harvey Barnes – into the back of his own net.

Barnes then added his name to the scoresheet five minutes before half-time, collecting Chilwell's pass, cutting inside and sending a deflected shot into the bottom corner.

“You can see Wigan's technical quality and their movement is good, they’ve got some fast players,” Rodgers told LCFC TV at full-time.

“It was always going to be a test for us, especially with their recent history in the cup, but we got the job done and that was important.”

Kelechi Iheanacho's early effort was enough for Leicester City to secure a 1-0 fourth round victory over Brentford at Griffin Park on Saturday 25 January.

There were nine changes to the Foxes' line-up which overcame West Ham United 4-1 on Filbert Way, with Ayoze Pérez and Çağlar Söyüncü keeping their places.

After just four minutes, a superb cross-field pass from Dennis Praet afforded James Justin with room to manoeuvre on the right flank and he located Iheanacho in the middle.

While City were on top for much of the game, Danny Ward prevented Luka Racic from levelling the scores, while youngster Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also made his debut from the bench.

"I’m so happy, I’m over the moon!" the midfielder told LCFC TV. "I’ve been at the Club since I was eight, this is my boyhood club, and I’ve worked so hard to get to this point.

"So, it’s just an honour to be able to play for this club and I’m grateful for everyone that’s helped me along the way and hopefully this is just the beginning."

A late winner from Ricardo Pereira booked Leicester City's place in the quarter-finals with a 1-0 success over Birmingham City on Filbert Way on Wednesday 4 March.

Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi, making his first start since late January, was one of only three changes to the starting XI, as Demarai Gray and Marc Albrighton also came in.

Pep Clotet's Blues were stern opposition for the Foxes, but the home side's persistence eventually paid off in the 82nd minute as Albrighton crossed for Ricardo to head past Lee Camp.

"I thought it was a very good performance,” Rodgers told LCFC TV. "Birmingham are a team that, as you’ve seen from their record since the turn of the year, haven’t lost a game.

"That tells you there’s a resilience there and Leicester City supporters will know from being in the Championship when you’re a Championship team playing against a Premier League team, you’re always going to raise your game that extra percentage as well."
