No Hesitation To Play Castagne, Says Rodgers
- Timothy Castagne could feature for Leicester City at West Bromwich Albion on Sunday, says Brendan Rodgers
- The Belgium international joined the Football Club from Atalanta earlier this summer
- City's clash with the Baggies at the Hawthorns kicks off at 2pm BST
- The Foxes manager also provides a fitness update on James Maddison, Christian Fuchs, Daniel Amartey, Wes Morgan, Ricardo Pereira and Filip Benković
The Belgium international full-back joined the Foxes from Italian outfit Atalanta earlier this summer and adds depth to Rodgers' defensive ranks ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
Speaking two days ahead of City's much-anticipated curtain-raiser, Rodgers, addressing the national and international media, elaborated on his reasons for bringing Castagne to Filbert Way.
"The reason for bringing him in is that he fits the profile of how we work and play," the Northern Irishman said. "He’s an international player for Belgium and one who I’ve tracked for a number years.
"I know everything about his qualities. He comes into the Premier League at a great age and he’s very excited about being here.
Rodgers Delivers Pre-Baggies Fitness Update
A snippet from Brendan Rodgers' press conference, where he discusses the squad's current fitness news.
"In the last few days since he joined, he’s fit in very well and I don’t have any hesitation to play him."
James Maddison (hip), Christian Fuchs (groin) Daniel Amartey (ankle) and captain Wes Morgan (hamstring) have all been in training this week as part of their recoveries.
While Rodgers will await news from the Club's medical staff on that quartet of players, Ricardo Pereira (ACL) and Filip Benković (hip) are definitely out for Sunday's trip to the Hawthorns.
"We have to make do," the 47-year-old added. "We’ve been unfortunate, really, but we’ll put out a team that we believe can get a result.
"We have a number of players who have played in that position before so we’ll assess it over the next 24 hours.
"James and Fuchsy have been training this week, so that’s good news. It’ll been brilliant to see them back on the pitch. Dan Amartey has just come back in.
"He played 45 minutes of the friendly game last weekend. It’s been nearly two years since his last game, so you always have to be careful when a player’s been out for such a long time, but he’s progressing well.
"Wes has rejoined the training group today. We have another 24 hours to asses them all. Ricardo is still a number of weeks away but he’s making good progress.
"On Filip, it shouldn't keep him out for too long, but he certainly won't be available for this weekend."
