Sowah At The Double As Leuven Win Again

Kamal Sowah’s fine form in front of goal continued on Saturday when a brace of goals helped Oud-Heverlee Leuven to a 3-2 win at K.A.A. Gent.

- Goalkeeper Daniel Iversen missed the fixture due to injury

- George Hirst made his first start for Rotherham United at Birmingham City

Leuven travelled to the 2014/15 Belgian champions having suffered a 3-1 reverse to Oostende a week prior, but they quickly put that result behind them at the K.A.A. Gent Stadium.

Marc Brys’ outfit raced into a 2-0 lead shortly before half-time when Sowah, on a season-long loan from Leicester City, scored his second goal of 2020/21 and midfielder Mathieu Maertens doubled their advantage.

Saturday's goalscorers celebrate at KAA Gent Stadium as Leuven record a 3-2 win.

Sowah’s third strike in as many outings, following his winner at Standard Liège earlier this month, made it 3-0, and while the hosts reduced the deficit to just one goal, Leuven held out for their third win of the campaign.

Goalkeeper Daniel Iversen, also on loan at Leuven for the 2020/21 campaign, missed out due to injury.

Leuven next entertain Zulte Waregem at King Power at Den Dreef Stadium on Saturday 3 October (5:30pm kick-off) in a fixture that could see attacker Josh Eppiah make his debut after the young winger joined on loan last week.

George Hirst's first Rotherham United start came in a 1-1 draw at Birmingham City.

In England, meanwhile, young striker George Hirst, who will spend the season on loan at Sky Bet Championship outfit Rotherham United, made his full debut for the Millers having come off the bench against Millwall a weekend earlier.

Hirst played just over an hour at St. Andrew’s Stadium, where a Kieran Sadler penalty on 87 minutes initially put Paul Warne’s side in front, but a Jeremy Bela spot-kick in injury time saw the fixture finish 1-1.
