Tielemans: A Really Important Result
- Leicester City sealed a first away win over Arsenal since 1973 on Sunday evening
- Jamie Vardy's late header booked City's third consecutive away Premier League success in 2020/21
- Midfielder Youri Tielemans highlighted the importance of the Foxes remaining composed in north London
- The 23-year-old also hailed the significance of Vardy to the Foxes after two games away with injury
Substitute Jamie Vardy's 80th-minute header - following an inch-perfect cross from Cengiz Ünder - sealed the points for the visitors to take them up to fourth in the top-flight standings.
After playing a prominent role himself in the move which led to Vardy's sixth goal in 2020/21, Tielemans underlined the importance of City putting aside their unenviable past record in north London.
"I heard that before!" the Belgium international told LCFC TV, when reminded of City's previous fortunes at Arsenal. "We are absolutely buzzing from that win. I think it was a very important one.
Tielemans: Everyone Is Buzzing
Youri Tielemans spoke to LCFC TV shortly after the Foxes' fantastic 1-0 win at Arsenal in the Premier League.
"We came from two back-to-back defeats in the Premier League, so it was really important to have a result today. Winning at Arsenal is always good for us so we are really happy."
Remaining composed despite lengthy phases of pressure from the Gunners was key, Tielemans believes, to Leicester leaving the capital with a third successive away win.
"We knew that tonight we had to be patient, especially in that first half, with them being on the ball and trying to break through our lines and in behind," he added.
"We had to keep our lines narrow and really tight and try to break on the counter and that’s what we did. That’s where the goal came from and we are really happy with the result."
Vardy Wins It For City At Arsenal
Jamie Vardy's winner which sealed the Foxes' first win at Arsenal since 1973 in the 2020/21 seasons.
After missing the Premier League clash with Aston Villa and Thursday's UEFA Europa League success over Zorya Luhansk, Vardy's impact was immediate - and Tielemans is thrilled to have him back.
"Yes, it is really good for us," the 23-year-old explained. "We were a bit unsure if he was going to play or not, but in the end, he played, he came on.
"He did great, he worked for the team really hard and then he was in a good place at a good moment, so he scored that goal and we won 1-0.
"We kept a clean sheet at the back, which is really important for the future, and now we have to move on and go again."
