Morgan: Build That Momentum Again
- LCFC Women beat Blackburn Rovers 5-2 in the FA Women's Continental League Cup on Wednesday
- Natasha Flint (2), Charlie Devlin and Paige Bailey-Gayle found the net before Kayleigh McDonald's own goal
- The Foxes sit top of Group E, level on points with Birmingham City, who also beat Rovers earlier this term
- Manager Jonathan Morgan hopes Leicester can use the result as an inspiration over the coming weeks
A brace from Natasha Flint, including a rocket from distance, sent City on their way before the break, before Elise Hughes and Charlotte Newsham restored parity for Rovers.
However, Leicester continued to press and they were rewarded with goals from substitutes Charlie Devlin and Paige Bailey-Gayle, before a Kayleigh McDonald own goal in the latter moments.
Morgan was delighted with the response to Sunday's FA Women's Championship reverse at London City Lionesses and praised the squad for their fortitude after Blackburn's second-half fightback.
"We were happy with the first half performance," he told LCFC TV. "Obviously, we took our foot off the gas for 20/25 minutes in the second half and in fairness to Blackburn, they capitalised.
"They came out and pressed us hard and I don’t think we anticipated that, in fairness. In all honesty, the girls clawed themselves back into the game and the quality showed in the end.
When the game was getting drawn out and tired, we had that firepower that we could bring off the bench.

"First and foremost, obviously the squad depth that we have is brilliant. Once we click, we’re going to be phenomenal. A few of the girls came in and they also did very well today.
"It allowed us to bring on some of the regulars who have played week in, week out so far, who have also shown their class as well and it was a big reason why we won today.
"When the game was getting drawn out and tired, we had that firepower that we could bring off the bench."
Morgan believes City can use this result a springboard for more success over the winter months as the Foxes look to remain in the upper reaches of the Championship standings.
Lewes are next up for Leicester at Farley Way Stadium on Sunday (2pm GMT kick-off) and Morgan says they can use the nature of their performance against Rovers as a benchmark for that clash.
"It’s massive," he added. "We said to the girls today that it was probably one of the biggest games of the season because we just had to get back to winning.
"We’ve got to build on that momentum again on Sunday and also, again, it just puts us back in that mindset of scoring goals, ready for Lewes coming here on Sunday, so I’m really pleased."
Flint's brace against her former club, replicating her exploits on the opening day of the league campaign, was also a source of satisfaction for the LCFC Women manager.
"Tash, we all know what she’s about, she’s a goalscorer," he continued. "She’s a goal machine. Her second goal was sublime, to be fair, but her work-rate was phenomenal off the ball.
"She ran, she hustled, she worked hard. She won back balls which she shouldn’t have won back, so I’m really pleased that she upped the other side of her game today.
"It shows you that she can be an all-round striker if she keeps doing down that route."
