A Hard-Fought Match, Says Rodgers

Manager Brendan Rodgers believes Leicester City’s goalless draw at Sinobo Stadium has provided a foundation for his side to build on when they host Slavia Prague in the second leg at Leicester City Stadium next week.

Both sides traded blows in either half, but were unable to breach each other’s defences as the first of two legs ended 0-0 in the Czech capital on Thursday night.

Rodgers says his side must improve while in possession of the ball during next week’s match, however he was pleased with the ground work his men laid away from home.

“It was hard-fought, with not so many chances,” the Northern Irishman told LCFC TV. “We were very strong. We had a couple of really good moments. Their ‘keeper made a really save in the first half.

“We weren’t so good with the ball. The pitch was difficult, it was heavy and bumpy, but we were loose at times. Overall, you come away and you play against a team that’s confident.

“They’ve scored something like, on average, three goals a game, so that tells you offensively they’re a dangerous team, but I thought we coped with that well. It sets us up perfectly for the second leg.”

We’re in the last 32 of a European competition, so it’s not going to be easy, but we’ve come away, and against a good team, we’ve kept a clean sheet and it really sets us up perfectly to attack the second game.

Slavia Prague are currently unbeaten in their domestic campaign, and posed a significant threat on Thursday night, however Rodgers now wants the Foxes to take the game to their Czech opponents when they visit Filbert Way.

He added: “They’re fast, they’re dynamic, their winger makes really good runs in behind, and they like to move the ball. I thought, overall, we had to work hard in the game, which we would expect.

“We’re in the last 32 of a European competition, so it’s not going to be easy, but we’ve come away, and against a good team, we’ve kept a clean sheet and it really sets us up perfectly to attack the second game.”
