We Put The Work In, Says Iheanacho
- Leicester City beat Millwall 2-0 in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday
- Kelechi Iheanacho sealed the victory with a brilliant strike after Ademola Lookman's opener
- The Nigeria international was delighted to get back on the scoresheet at The Den
- He was also proud of the defensive qualities which were on show against Gary Rowett's men
The Foxes booked safe passage through to a fourth round tie against Brighton & Hove Albion courtesy of goals from Ademola Lookman, on his full debut for the Club, and Iheanacho, who fired a rocket into the roof of the net in the latter stages of the clash at The Den.
After scoring his second goal of the season, adding to his match-winning spot-kick in the FA Community Shield, Iheanacho spoke to LCFC TV in south-east London to reflect on an important result for Leicester.
"It was a sweet goal, a rocket, and we’re happy with that," he said on his stunning late strike. "It was team work and we’re happy going into the next round. We put the work in today. We defended really good in the last 10 minutes and we got the first goal early in the second half.
City Score Twice In Millwall Win
Watch both goals from Leicester City's 2-0 Carabao Cup Third Round victory over Millwall.
"We got the second goal, so we’re happy. I’m happy with the goal and we’re looking forward to the next round. I didn’t see Patson [Daka]. If I saw him, I would’ve passed to him, but he’ll be happy with the goal, but if I missed that one, I think he’d be fuming. Anyways, next time I will pass to Patson!"
Iheanacho was also pleased to see new team-mate Lookman open his account for City on 50 minutes after the Nigerian's effort was parried by Lions goalkeeper George Long into the loanee's path.
"It was a good counter-attack from the team and I took the ball well and tried to put it in the bottom corner, but the ‘keeper parried it," Leicester's No.14 added. "Ade finished it well. It was a difficult finish, a difficult technique, but he guided it in, so it’s a good finish.
"It was a really tough game. They’re a good side, they gave us a good game. It wasn’t easy in the first half, but in the second half, the space was there. We got our chances and we saw it through."
Iheanacho: A Team Effort
Kelechi Iheanacho speaks to LCFC TV after scoring Leicester City's second goal in a 2-0 win over Millwall in the Carabao Cup.
The 24-year-old, who ended last season as the Club's top goalscorer in all competitions, also lauded the defensive efforts of the team at The Den, while reacting to the fourth round draw, which pits Leicester against Premier League rivals Brighton.
"As a group, it’s good to get a clean sheet," he continued. "It’s really good. Hopefully we’ll get more this season. This is a fantastic competition. Hopefully we’ll get a chance to win games and get through and get to the end, but it will be a tough one also. Fingers crossed, we’re looking forward to the games.
"Hopefully we won’t get a cold night against Brighton again! It’ll be good game. We’re looking forward to it. They’re really good this season. Hopefully we’ll give them a game at King Power Stadium and we’ll get through."
