City’s debut home fixture at Pirelli Stadium didn’t go as planned as the visiting Toffees collected all three group stage points courtesy of their 3-1 victory in Burton on Wednesday evening.

Ashleigh Plumptre grabbed a goal back on 82 minutes after the away side raced into a two-goal lead before the break, but a third Everton strike from Valerie Gauvin ended any hopes of a Foxes turnaround.

Bailey-Gayle, who was introduced as a half-time substitute, says the team were disappointed not to be able to take anything out of the game after a strong showing in the second 45 minutes.

I was buzzing to come on and help the girls and pick up the performance compared to the first half. I just hope it’s momentum for myself and the team for the next game.

“Of course, it’s a hard one to take,” the 19-year-old admitted to LCFC TV. “We put in a good performance in the second half, we pushed to get level and get the win but obviously we couldn’t do it today. Hopefully we can build momentum for Sunday.

“I was buzzing to come on and help the girls and pick up the performance compared to the first half. I just hope it’s momentum for myself and the team for the next game.

“It’s just hard when we build momentum and then the game doesn’t go our way and they score. It’s hard to take, but we’ve just got to build and then when we score, shut up shop sometimes, or push for the next one, and just stop conceding goals really.

“When we play forward and we play positively, I think everyone has a lot more to give because we create a lot more chances. The game is just a lot more enjoyable for us when we are being aggressive rather than being passive.”

The Game Didn't Go Our Way, Says Bailey-Gayle

Forward Paige Bailey-Gayle spoke to LCFC TV after featuring in LCFC Women's 3-1 defeat to Everton at Pirelli Stadium.

The Foxes switch attention back to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League on Sunday afternoon as they welcome Manchester City to King Power Stadium (2pm kick-off), searching for their first points of the top-flight campaign.

With another big crowd likely to be present on Filbert Way, Bailey-Gayle is looking forward to the occasion and wants to ensure they can produce a positive performance to send the supporters home happy.

The forward added: “It’s a big game, but we’re just focused on ourselves. Hopefully we can build momentum and can get our first three points in the league. We can’t wait.”
