Dewsbury-Hall: We Wanted A Reaction

Diogo Jota’s double meant the Reds claimed all three Premier League points, however City were much improved from the weekend, and came close to finding the net after threatening on several occasions.

Although Dewsbury-Hall – LCFC Radio co-commentator Gerry Taggart’s stand-out player on the night – was frustrated with the result, he felt his side could be encouraged by their showing on Merseyside.

“We wanted a reaction from Sunday because everyone knows it wasn’t good enough,” he explained. “We just came here and wanted to restore some pride in our play and I feel like tonight, in parts of the game, we did that.

“It’s always a tough place to come here, Anfield, and I thought for the first half, we played well. It’s a set-piece goal again that’s been the downfall, but we said at half-time stick in the game as long as possible, and you never know what could happen.

“I thought that we did that in the second half, we pushed and pushed and we kept them at bay as long as we could. On another day, in different circumstances with the rub of the green, you can get a result here. It’s disappointing, but we can take some positives out of the game.”

After a disappointing result against Nottingham Forest in the Emirates FA Cup, just under 3,000 Foxes fans travelled to Merseyside in midweek, and Dewsbury-Hall felt City restored some pride against Jürgen Klopp’s men.

He said: “We know it wasn’t good enough at the weekend and we needed a good response not just for ourselves, but for the fans as well. We wanted to get some pride back and show the fans how much we care and how much we want to do well. I feel like we did that.

It’s hard because you work so hard and then right at the end, all of your hard work is gone. It’s disappointing, but we’ll go to the next one.

“There are positives to take tonight, even though we’ve lost the game. We just need to take those positives into the weekend now and we need to try and get three points.”

Jota’s first-half strike had the Reds ahead at the interval, and while the Portuguese added a second late on, Leicester were effective in spells and could have found an equaliser at various stages.

He added: “You work hard all half to try and stay in the game as long as possible. We did that, and then it’s little moments in games that fall the opponents’ way and that’s the way football will go sometimes.

“It’s hard because you work so hard and then right at the end, all of your hard work is gone. It’s disappointing, but we’ll go to the next one."
