Iheanacho: Great Work From The Team
- Kelechi Iheanacho reacts to Leicester City’s 2-0 UEFA Europa Conference League win over Rennes
- The City No.14 rounded off the scoring, adding to Marc Albrighton’s excellent opener
- Leicester face Rennes in France next week in the second leg
Rennes – Ligue 1’s second-highest goalscorers this term – threatened in stages, however City were clinical in attack and claimed a victory in the first leg of their round of 16 tie.
A belter from Marc Albrighton put the Foxes in front before Iheanacho added a second of the game in the third minute of injury time.
He said: “It was a good performance. We go 1-0 up at half-time and we said at half-time that we needed to come out stronger and secure the victory, so that’s what we did.
“They’re a good side, we are strong and at the end, we got the security and the finish. We’re looking forward to the away game.
We Were Strong, Says Iheanacho
Late goalscorer Kelechi Iheanacho provides his assessment of Leicester City's 2-0 win over Rennes in the first leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League Round of 16 tie.
“I’m happy. It’s been a while now, so I’m happy getting that goal and I’m getting my confidence up. It was a fantastic goal and it was great work from the team to get the goal.
“Football is ups and downs, but you have to be patient for your time to come. When it comes, you have to take it, so that’s what I did tonight.”
Iheanacho’s first European goal of the campaign meant the Foxes will carry a 2-0 advantage into the second leg, which takes place in Brittany next week.
“The group said that it’s so, so important that we got that second goal,” he continued. “It’s security, but we don’t need to dwell on it. We need to go there and play our football, and make sure we win the game.
This game will get our confidence up going to Arsenal. I think we’re strong now, defensively and offensively. So, we’ll continue like that and hopefully the wins will come.

“That’s what we’re going for. Another clean sheet, so we’re happy, and collectively we’re defending very well now, so we’ll keep that going.
“They’re a good side, they have good wingers and I think they’re strong in their league. We need to just be aware and careful when we get there so we don’t concede, and get the win so we qualify for the next round.”
With four wins on the bounce in the bag heading into Sunday’s Premier League trip to Arsenal, Iheanacho believes City are building momentum at an important time.
He added: “This game will get our confidence up going to Arsenal. I think we’re strong now, defensively and offensively. So, we’ll continue like that and hopefully the wins will come.”
