March For Men will see the Club’s charitable arm join forces with Sue Young Cancer Support, and other Leicestershire based organisations, to offer advice on the subject.
You can join the march on Thursday 31 March, meeting at Community Hub (1884 Sports Bar) from 10:30am-12:30pm, or 6:30pm-8:30pm.
Matt Bray, Health and Wellbeing Manager at Leicester City in the Community said: “We feel there is significant need to raise awareness of prostate cancer to our community and football has a role to play in getting that message out to the target audience.
“Prostate cancer is prevalent men, and the pandemic has only worsened matters. We hope our March For Men event will encourage more adult men to get themselves tested and we encourage conversations on the matter.”
Almost 12,000 men each year die from prostate cancer, so we want to support Leicester City in the Community in raising awareness.
Courtney Nangle Charity Manager at Sue Young Cancer Support
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, with one in every eight males being diagnosed with the cancer. You are at higher risk of prostate cancer if you are over 50 years old, black, or if your father or brother had it – but the earlier you catch it – the more likely you are to be cured.
Courtney Nangle, Charity Manager at Sue Young Cancer Support said: "Sue Young Cancer Support in Leicestershire and Rutland is very excited at the opportunity of working with Leicester City Football Club on this Prostate Awareness campaign.
“Almost 12,000 men each year die from prostate cancer, so we want to support Leicester City in the Community in raising awareness. We also want to help the men of Leicester and Leicestershire to recognise the signs, go for testing and get early treatment."
Meanwhile, the United Leicester Wellbeing Hub will showcase stories and further support on prostate cancer, which you can find HERE.
If you are eligible, ensure you get checked for prostate cancer. You can find out more HERE. For more information and to confirm your attendance, please contact Matt Bray on matt.bray@lcfc.co.uk.
