Pupils Mark FA Playmaker Course Completion With Seagrave Visit

Participants from Leicester City’s charitable arm – Leicester City in the Community – experienced the state-of-the-art facilities at LCFC Training Ground on Friday.

The first group of school pupils got a taste of the Club's impressive training facilities to celebrate the completion of the FA Playmaker course.

The new entry-level football course, supported by BT, is online and free - perfect for anyone interested in taking a more active role in grassroots football.

Children from West Gate School took part in the six-week programme, which saw the 14 participants complete the module at school and in weekly sessions with Leicester City in the Community that put their learning into real-life scenarios.

Through the day, we got some great feedback from the participants who really enjoyed the day, which shows the impact that was made.

Assessing the programme, Hugh Halbert, Teacher at West Gate School said: “The delivery of the FA Playmaker course has been excellent. “The way [LCitC coaches] Luke and Kyle have differentiated the learning to each of our learners has been perfect - it has enabled them to get the maximum out of the course.

“I really think the way you have shown them that they can learn in a different environment and the lessons around teamwork will hold them in good stead for the future and improve their college and employment chances.”

Pupils from the New Parks-based school are not the first to complete the FA Playmaker course. Participants from Inclusive Leicester – LCitC’s health and wellbeing inclusive offer – and Kicks participants from St Matthews have also passed the course.

Luke Miller, Health and Wellbeing Coach at Leicester City in the Community, was the first to offer the FA Playmaker course to participants and he explains how much celebrating this achievement at Seagrave means.

Participants from West Gate School celebrated the completion of the course at LCFC Training Ground.

“It was an amazing opportunity for the participants to experience Seagrave,” Luke began. “The fact that they were the first group of our participants to go to Seagrave meant a lot to them.

“Through the day, we got some great feedback from the participants who really enjoyed the day, which shows the impact that was made.”

MatchFit is continuing to develop disability provision; with pupils from West Gate School coming down to New Parks Team Hub every Friday for a session delivered by the Club’s charitable arm.
