Several Foxes Set For International Involvement
- Josie Green and Carrie Jones selected for Wales’ double header
- Sophie Howard named in the Scotland squad
- CJ Bott returns for New Zealand’s two friendlies
- Shannon O’Brien and Molly Pike in line to play for England U23s
Midfield duo Josie Green and Carrie Jones are in the 26-player Wales senior squad for their FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifying double header, which begins against Greece on Friday 2 September.
An 8pm kick-off at Panthessaliko Stadium, it is followed by Gemma Grainger’s side hosting Slovenia at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday 6 September (7:45pm kick-off). Four points from the final two qualifiers would guarantee Cymru’s spot in the World Cup for the very first time.
Currently second in Group I, on 16 points from their eight games, Wales are two points ahead of Slovenia in third and three in front of fourth-place Greece, as things stand.
Sophie Howard
Howard has been a permanent fixture in the Scotland team throughout her LCFC Women career.
Also set to be in action on Friday is Sophie Howard, after the defender was named in Scotland’s squad to face the Netherlands and Faroe Islands early next month.
First up is an international friendly against the Dutch at MAC3PARK Stadion in Zwolle – a 7pm kick-off on Friday, before the final World Cup qualifier against Faroe Islands next Tuesday, held at Tórsvøllur in Tórshavn (6pm kick-off).
Pedro Martinez Losa’s team have already secured their spot in the play-offs, having collected 13 points from their seven fixtures to date, and are set to place second in Group B, but will want to finish on a high.
In the Southern Hemisphere, meanwhile, CJ Bott has returned to the New Zealand senior squad to meet Mexico and the Philippines in Los Angeles after missing their July camp.
CJ Bott
Bott featured for the Football Ferns in the 2022 SheBelieves Cup.
The Football Ferns’ 22-player squad will take on Mexico at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday 3 September (12am kick-off), ahead of tackling the Philippines at Titan Stadium on Wednesday 7 September (1am kick-off).
Elsewhere, Molly Pike and Shannon O’Brien have once again received call-ups to join up with the England Under-23s squad for their first camp of the new season.
Mo Marley's Young Lionesses will play a friendly against Norway on Friday at the Melløs Stadion in Moss (2pm kick-off).
Staying with England, young midfielder Mackenzie Smith, currently on loan at Nottingham Forest, received a call-up to the Under-19s side for a training camp at St. George’s Park, while Academy prospect Jess Reavill is in the Under-18s squad.
