Prior to kick-off, all in attendance paid tribute to the life and service of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, observing a minute's silence before the playing of the National Anthem, God Save The King. Throughout the match, players on across both teams wore black armbands while fans joined in a minute’s applause on the 70th minute in recognition of the length of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.
For the match, Brendan Rodgers made three changes to the side that faced Brighton & Hove Albion on 4 September. Deadline day signing Wout Faes made his Foxes debut, while Timothy Castagne and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall were back in the starting XI.
With only four minutes on the clock, James Justin won a penalty for City after being fouled by Davinson Sánchez, who tripped the defender just inside the 18-yard box. Hugo Lloris saved the initial spot-kick from Youri Tielemans, but VAR intervened for goalkeeper encroachment - the France international had stepped off his line. The Belgium international made no mistake this time, converting from 12 yards to give Leicester the lead.
City's advantage only lasted two minutes, though. Former City loanee Harry Kane was on hand at the far post to level matters by nodding home Dejan Kulusevski's cross.
Ivan Perišić and Patson Daka each had shots turned away inside 15 minutes, then Pierre-Emile Højbjerg lifted off target and James Maddison was twice denied by two blocks. But Tottenham were in front soon after, with Eric Dier glancing home Perišić's corner for 2-1.
Positive play from Tielemans and Maddison followed, however the move broke down in the Spurs area. At the other end, Justin slid in to dispossess Kulusevski. The resulting corner came in, and although the ball found the net, the goal was disallowed after Sánchez fouled Danny Ward.
Faes nearly set up the equaliser for City, breaking out of defence before his deflected pass allowed him to play in Daka first time. The Zambia international took a touch to set himself, however Lloris was able to gather with half-an-hour gone.
A minute later, captain Jonny Evans got in the way of Richarlison's acrobatic attempt. Dewsbury-Hall, Harvey Barnes and Ndidi were wayward not long after, as Leicester looked to get back on level terms.
That goal finally came for the Foxes on 41 minutes. Dewsbury-Hall switched play to the right wing, where Castagne nodded the ball into his own path and whipped a delivery into Maddison, whose well-take, first-time shot looped over Lloris.
Before the interval, Wales international Ward, at full-stretch, produced a fine save to tip Sánchez's header onto the crossbar. Faes was on hand to clear the loose ball.
In first-half added time, Maddison came close to putting Leicester 3-2 ahead after a neat team move, however his low drive was saved by the legs of Lloris.
Just over 90 seconds into the second half, Spurs were back in front. Ndidi was dispossessed in midfield by Rodrigo Bentancur, who sprinted towards goal and side-footed in off the bottom of the post for 3-2.
Kulusevski was off target and then Ward held onto Dier's flicked header, before Faes defended well against Kulusevski, closing the space before Ward was able to collect the deflected attempt.
Only a fine, one-handed stop from Lloris kept Spurs ahead. Castagne chested down to Maddison, whose first-time cross was met by the head of Daka, however Tottenham's captain kept it out. On 69 minutes, Barnes flicked Maddison's delivery from the right wing off target.
On 70 minutes, a minute's applause reverberated around the stadium in memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Although City were creating chances, substitute Son Heung-min made it 4-2. Bentancur won the ball in midfield and played in the South Korea international, who curled into the top corner. A double change followed for the visitors, with Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy replacing Dewsbury-Hall and Daka.
Two goals behind, Leicester continued to press, with Ndidi dragging wide on 78 minutes, before Ward was alert to Bentancur's low shot. Justin had to get in the way of Ryan Sessegnon's follow-up six yards out.
A fifth of the match came for Spurs, though. Son received the ball from Kane and bent it into the far corner past Ward. Boubakary Soumaré came on in place of Ndidi not long after.
After Ward had saved from Son, the Spurs No.7 initially had a goal disallowed for offside, however VAR's intervention ruled he was onside and had indeed completed his hat-trick.
Maddison, in time added on, was denied by Lloris from range, as Tottenham claimed the points in north London.
Major moment – Bentancur scores
The No.10 applauds the Blue Army at full-time.
Back on level terms at 2-2 heading into the second half thanks to James Maddison's neat goal, Spurs struck almost immediately after the interval through Rodrigo Bentancur, before a Son Heung-min hat-trick made sure of the points.
