Dewsbury-Hall: A Frustrating Day

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall bemoaned Leicester City's lack of cutting edge in Saturday's 1-0 reverse to Premier League leaders Arsenal at King Power Stadium.

The Academy graduate, who was making his 50th top-flight appearance for the Club, was left frustrated at full-time as Gabriel Martinelli's 46th-minute strike settled matters on Filbert Way.

In truth, the Gunners were dominant throughout, with City not mustering a shot on target all game, but there were moments for the home side. Late on, Mikel Arteta's north London outfit had to fight for their 18th win of the 2022/23 season.

"It was a frustrating day to be honest," Leicester's No.22 said in reflection. "We kept in the game for large parts of it. We defended well and got into good positions at times, attacking-wise, but that final ball was lacking from everyone.

"Against top teams like this, you have to take those chances. Credit to them, they got back quick and into a good shape quickly. It’s about turning those attacks into dangerous moments in the game and we didn’t do that today."

Martinelli's Goal The Difference

A solitary strike from Gabriel Martinelli saw Arsenal take all three points on Filbert Way.

After battling hard to stay goalless before the break, the Foxes were disappointed to concede so early into the second half. Martinelli squeezed an effort into the bottom corner less than 120 seconds after the restart.

"They might have caught us cold at the start of the second half," he added. "We didn’t get onto the second ball or react and they punish you. They’ve got top players. It wasn’t the way we wanted to start the second half because we were in the game.

"It was an uphill battle from then. Towards the end of the game, we pressed them higher and we probably had a bit more pressure on it and it’s something we need to look back on to see if we can that a bit more."

This defeat by Arsenal was Leicester's second loss in a row, with last weekend's reverse at Manchester United following three successive wins in all competitions. Dewsbury-Hall says City were in both games, but must keep their mentality. He also went on the elaborate on the importance of making Filbert Way a fortress over the final months of the season.

Both games, we were in them for large parts of them. Last week, we were the better team for a lot of the game. Today, we were in it and we had chances.

"Both games, we were in them for large parts of them," he explained. "Last week, we were the better team for a lot of the game. Today, we were in it and we had chances.

"In the second half today, apart from the goal, they didn’t really create a lot. Against the top teams, you’ve got to be clinical. They’ve got that moment of quality where they can just turn a game on its head.

"We’ve created the chances in both games but it’s about making sure we finish off the action. That’s the most frustrating thing because we have the quality in the squad, so it’s about keeping the mentality.

"We want to make our home at King Power Stadium a fortress because that’s where all our fans are week in, week out.

"It’s frustrating that we haven’t been able to give them the results that they want. I’m not sure for what reason that is, but it’s something we need to keep digging in and working at.

"We’ve got enticing games coming up here where we should be getting three points, so hopefully that can change."
